Safety Month

Welcome back to another post celebrating the National Safety Month of June. This week’s topic addresses workplace impairment and recognizing the signs. The National Safety Council defines impairment as the inability to function normally or safely because of several factors such as: chemical substances (e.g., alcohol, opioids), physical factors (e.g., fatigue and certain medical conditions), social factors (e.g., professional, and other stressors) and mental distress (e.g., related illness and other factors). At PSG we focus on the safety of our employees and do our best to ensure each employee is cognizant of their surroundings and able to perform their job function at a high level.

Knowing how to work safely in hot weather can help prevent heat stress injuries and heat stroke.  One safety tip is to stay hydrated. Are you drinking enough water? Use this urine color chart to assess how hydrated you are. It’s important to drink plenty of water every day to stay healthy. At PSG we keep our employees informed about updated procedures to encourage and train our employees to stay safe. Visit our website for more safety tips.

As summer approaches and the days get longer, the dangers of working outside during hot weather increase. One safety tip is to Wear protective clothing. Lightweight, light-colored, and loose-fitting clothing will help protect against the heat. At PSG, we properly train and educate our employees to help everyone understand the latest safety procedures and importance of maintaining a safe working environment. The best way to stop fire from threatening your workplace and employees is to prevent the initial spark from igniting in the first place. Other electric appliances and machines around your workplace could easily become fire hazards. Check around your work area for common fire traps and keep computers, monitors, printers, etc., up to date and replace old or damaged wiring immediately. At PSG, we properly train and educate our employees to help everyone understand the latest safety procedures and importance of maintaining a safe working environment.

Whether in an office or at a jobsite, having a clean workspace will positively impact your job satisfaction and keep you and your coworkers free from potential hazards. A messy workspace could create trip and fall hazards, or potentially hide other workplace hazards. At PSG, we properly train and educate our employees to help everyone understand the latest safety procedures and importance of maintaining a safe working environment.
